Job Description:
MPS (Monolithic Power Systems) is a semiconductor company shipping billions of products per year. MPS provides small, ultra-efficient, easy-to-use power management solutions including Power Modules, Power Converters, Isolation, Battery Management, Motor Drivers, Analog, Sensors, AC-DC, and Inductors for electronic systems found in industrial, Automotive, IoT (Internet of Things), Optoelectronics, Biomedical, Robotics, Cloud Computing, Telecom and High-end consumer applications. MPS is based in the USA with offices and development centers all around the world.
MPS sensor division, based in Tolochenaz near Morges and Lausanne, specializes in miniaturized magnetic sensors used to measure 3D magnetic fields, angles, positions and electrical currents. Our sensors are found, for instance, in computers, cars, robots, motors. We are looking for an intern to work on our latest generations of sensors.
Main tasks
* Support our R&D and product design team (as well as our customer support one) in (1) performing electromagnetic and thermal simulations (FEM + analytical) and further developing our internal tools for this; (2) defining product specifications including test and trimming procedures; (3) developing better sensing methods and algorithms to improve our sensors’ performance (mainly SNR). The focus will be on our (electric) current sensors but can shift to our angular position ones.
Required skills
* Sound understanding of electromagnetism
* Data analysis and visualization
* Signal processing (numerical)
Good to have
* Experience with finite elements method (FEM), e.g. Comsol (open source such as FreeFEM, Elmer a big plus)
* Python and scientific/visualization libraries (e.g. numpy, scipy, pandas, vtk)
* Working knowledge of git
* Experience in sensors and/or semiconductor industry
* Embedded software (firmware), microcontrollers (and communication protocols, e.g. SPI) and PCB design (e.g. Altium, KiCad)
Education
Student or new graduate in a Master program in Physics, Microengineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science or equivalent (EPF, university or HES)
