The World Organisation Against Torture Office in Geneva is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, thorough and versatile individual, with a strong commitment to human rights and social justice causes, to be part of a small yet dynamic communications team and to take on significant responsibility for supporting the implementation of the OMCT communication strategic objectives.
ABOUT THE OMCT
The OMCT works with around 200 member organisations which constitute its SOS-Torture Network, to end torture, fight impunity and protect human rights defenders worldwide. Together, we make up the largest global group actively standing up to torture in more than 75 countries. Helping local voices be heard, we support our vital partners in the field and provide direct assistance to victims. Our international secretariat is based in Geneva, with offices in Brussels and Tunis.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Digital Communications and Campaigns Officer will work as part of a small dynamic communications team, responsible for enhancing OMCT’s visibility and brand identity, increasing audience engagement and reach on digital platforms, coordinating the communications aspect of innovative advocacy campaigns, supporting the achievement of OMCT’s fundraising targets and advancing OMCT’s profile and reputation with the media, donors and partners. Additionally, the Communications team provides capacity building to SOS-Torture network members.
The Digital Communications and Campaigns Officer is primarily responsible for managing OMCT's digital platforms, including the website and social media, and for producing a wide range of digital, written and multimedia materials. The Digital Communications and Campaigns Officer also provides support for other communications and outreach activities and tasks as needed.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
Digital Communications and Campaigns
* Manage all OMCT digital communication channels, including social media and the website, and support the development of new features in collaboration with the external IT developer.
* Conceptualize, launch and coordinate digital campaigns and initiatives, including social media paid campaigns, to advance the human rights/anti-torture movement by leveraging the visibility of international days, key dates, events, and report launches.
* Produce and disseminate social media assets with a multimedia component, including visuals, short videos and animations.
* Analyze web and social media analytics to understand OMCT audience behavior and make recommendations to enhance user reach and engagement.
Content Production
* Produce high-quality digital, written, and multimedia materials independently or in collaboration with external photographers, designers, and audio-visual specialists. Materials include interviews, articles, blogs, videos, podcasts, data visualization features and email campaign materials.
* Translate complex ideas into impactful messages and human-interest storytelling to advance public advocacy, individual fundraising, and resource mobilization efforts.
* Provide support for the production and dissemination of advocacy and communication products, including statements and reports.
* Support the production and publication of the OMCT Annual Report.
Support to Media Relations
* Assist the Director of Communications in monitoring media trends and identifying opportunities.
* Support the production of messaging materials, including press releases, media advisories, key messages, and talking points.
* Support the coordination of interviews with journalists and media events, as needed.
Support to Capacity Building
* Collaborate with the Director of Communication to support the conception and implementation of tailored training curricula on communication-related topics for OMCT staff, SOS-Torture Network members and partners.
* Support internal communication efforts, including for the implementation and enhancement of the internal newsletter targeting SOS-Torture Network members, to foster reach and engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
* A minimum of a Master’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism, Marketing, or a related subject.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in digital communications and content production for an international organization, non-profit organization, or a government agency.
* Sound understanding of social media trends and best practices and proven track record in managing digital platforms, analyzing website and social media stats.
* Strong ability to conceptualize, launch and coordinate result-driven digital communication campaigns.
* Strong writing and content production skills.
* Experience using graphics software, such as Canva, Adobe Suite, or others, is a requirement.
* Video production and editing skills are an advantage.
* Articulate, creative, passionate, dynamic, solutions-oriented and flexible.
* Personal and professional integrity.
* Self-motivation, and the proven ability to work independently under minimum supervision.
* Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team and to provide help, assistance, and support to colleagues.
* Strong ability to deliver multiple simultaneous projects and manage multiple deadlines.
* Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and interpersonal skills, ability to interact with people at various professional levels and diverse backgrounds.
* Excellent written and spoken English and French. Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage.
* High attention to detail.
