Applied Physicist - Large Experiment Operations Manager

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. We are looking for an Applied Physicist to manage the operation of the ATLAS detector and its experiment infrastructure.
About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Applied Physicist to join our team as Operation Manager of the ATLAS detector. The successful candidate will play a major role in defining and organizing all the works needed to keep the detector in the best possible conditions, operating and maintaining parts of the experiment infrastructure.
Main duties and responsibilities:
* Manage the operation of all ATLAS experiment installations, including planning of interventions and 24/7 problem response.
* Organize and chair regular meetings where interventions on and maintenance of the ATLAS detector and its experiment infrastructure are defined and scheduled.
* Interact with upgrade projects to define future needs for the operation of the experiments.
* Coordinate the commissioning of upgraded detector systems and prepare the infrastructure necessary for operation inside the ATLAS underground area.
* Perform hands-on work for maintenance and repair of dedicated counting room equipment.
* Follow-up and produce documentation on interventions performed on different systems.
* Develop and/or maintain computer-based systems to assist in understanding complex relations between different parts of the detector.
* Act as link person between CERN technical sector and ATLAS for operation, including participating in meetings with the LHC machine.
Requirements
To be eligible, you will need to have a PhD or equivalent relevant experience in applied physics or experimental physics or a related field. You should also have proven experience with the operation of large physics experiments and in-depth experience with the operation of at least one detector system.
