One Ph.D. position is available in our research group at the University of Bern to work on In vitro models of fibrosis in endometriosis as a screening tool for novel and repurposed drug candidates.
Background:
Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting 5–10% of women of reproductive age and contributing to 5–50% of female factor infertility cases. Current treatment options are limited, primarily consisting of hormone suppression therapy and surgery, with pharmacological treatment typically focused on pain alleviation. Recent research has highlighted the fibrotic aspect of the disease as a potential therapeutic target.
Fundamental Tasks:
We have initiated the development of 3D culture models of fibrosis in endometriosis to evaluate antifibrotic drugs with potential applications in treating endometriosis. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with biomaterials, additive manufacturing, cell culture techniques, extracellular vesicles, and omics technologies to develop advanced therapeutics for fibrosis treatment in a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Requirements:
* Possesses a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Pharmacy
* Has prior experience with cell culture techniques
* Able to collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner with different research teams
* Proactive, highly motivated, and interested in exploring new technologies, with a willingness to take on challenging tasks
* Fluent in English
* Keen to teach and mentor undergraduate students in lab courses and research internships
