Legal Counsel (temporary role)
The Job’s Mission
Our Legal Counsel position is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious professional to join a Swiss based academic institution with global reach. In this role, you will report to the General Counsel.
Key Activities & Accountabilities
• Work closely with and report to our General Counsel on various legal and compliance matters, while being an integral part of the legal team.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks and implement solutions to mitigate such risks.
• Operate across a range of international jurisdictions, including Switzerland, EU, UK, US, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
• Provide practical, business-focused guidance on commercial legal matters, in particular data protection.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on data protection issues, addressing questions from clients and internal stakeholders.
• Draft, review and negotiate agreements with clients and suppliers.
• Stay up to date with regulations, prepare relevant internal memos and training as necessary.
• Support the institution and the legal team on any legal matter.
Education
• Master’s degree in Swiss Law
• Strong familiarity with privacy laws, including FDPA and GDPR, CIPP/E and AIGP a plus.
Experience
• 8+ years of experience, including significant commercial and data protection experience, preferably in-house (law firm experience will also be considered).
Competencies
• Proven ability to quickly close agreements with clients and suppliers during commercial negotiations.
• Strong commercial/negotiation skills, ability to balance legal risks and business objectives, with high aptitude to engage with clients, often in a very asymmetrical context.
• Solution-oriented thinking, flexible, collaborative, fast learner, with a hands-on mentality and ability to solve complex issues quickly.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a small legal team in a multicultural institution.
• Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, writing and analytical skills.
• Resilient, friendly with a can-do attitude!
• Fluent in English (spoken and written) and French.
