Job description: As a member of the Transmission team, you will be responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and optimisation of transmission networks, including microwave links, leased lines, and dark fiber connections, to support our mobile network infrastructure. The role also includes designing and engineering microwave equipment and managing the application process for microwave licenses with the relevant regulatory bodies.
Transmission Link Planning & Design: Design and plan transmission networks, including microwave links, leased lines, and dark fiber lines, to support mobile network infrastructure.
Conduct feasibility studies, transmission solution design, and link budget calculations to ensure optimal transmission path design.
Collaborate with RF, core network, and field operations teams to align transmission plans with overall network architecture.
Microwave Equipment Engineering: Select, configure, and engineer microwave equipment, including antennas, radios, and associated hardware, to meet specific network requirements.
Develop technical specifications and documentation for microwave equipment and ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of microwave links, ensuring minimal disruption to network services.
Act as technical support to the transmission integration team and sub-contractors.
Regulatory Compliance & Licensing: Prepare and submit applications for microwave licenses to the telecommunications regulator, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Liaise with regulatory authorities to track the status of license applications and address any queries or issues that arise.
Maintain accurate records of all microwave licenses and ensure timely renewals.
Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of network projects such as microwave link swaps or dark fiber upgrades.
Coordinate cross-functional teams, manage resources, and ensure timelines are met.
Ensure that the above-mentioned projects meet technical standards, budget limits, and objectives.
Network Optimization & Troubleshooting: Analyze network performance data to identify areas for improvement in transmission links and recommend optimization strategies.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for transmission link issues, working closely with field teams and back-office support teams to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
Vendor Management: Collaborate with equipment vendors to ensure proper selection of microwave equipment and the timely delivery of hardware and services.
Evaluate and recommend vendors based on technical capabilities, cost, and reliability.
Manage forecast and ordering of microwave equipment.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of transmission network designs, equipment configurations, and licensing records.
Prepare regular reports on transmission network performance, project progress, and regulatory compliance for management review.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Around 10 years of experience in transmission network planning and design, particularly in microwave links, leased lines, and dark fiber.
Strong knowledge of microwave technologies, link budget analysis, and transmission equipment.
Good knowledge of Swiss telecoms, its specificities, and main actors.
Proficiency in network design tools (e.g., Atoll).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Experience in management of network projects.
Experience with regulatory processes and microwave licensing is a plus.
Good oral and written communication in French and English. German is a plus.
