Summary of Position:
The Maintenance Assistant will assist in maintaining the overall appearance, safety, and functionality of the assisted living facility. This position supports the Maintenance Supervisor by performing routine repairs, preventive maintenance, and ensuring that the facility meets local and state safety regulations. The role requires a hands-on approach, effective communication, and the ability to work well in a compassionate environment focused on senior care.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as repairing plumbing, electrical systems, and minor carpentry work.
Assist in maintaining the HVAC systems, ensuring proper operation of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
Conduct regular inspections of the building, equipment, and grounds to identify potential hazards and maintenance needs.
Assist with landscaping and grounds-keeping duties to maintain clean, safe, and attractive outdoor areas.
Respond promptly to work orders and emergency maintenance requests.
Assist with setting up rooms and common areas for events and activities.
Help manage the facility's maintenance supply inventory, ensuring tools and materials are organized and readily available.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain cleanliness in all maintenance areas.
Communicate effectively with staff and management to provide updates on maintenance activities.
Assist in coordinating and overseeing external contractors when needed for specialized repairs or services.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience in maintenance, facility management, or related field.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and general handyman skills.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills, particularly with elderly and staff.
Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays, if necessary.
Work Environment:
This role is performed in an assisted living facility with frequent interaction with the elderly. It may involve lifting, working with tools, and being on your feet for long periods.
