Mechanical Engineer for the ATLAS Detector
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Physicists and engineers study the basic constituents of matter using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments.
Introduction:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in integrating, designing, and managing CAD data in a large scientific programme or an industrial environment. You will join the ATLAS team in CERN's Experimental Physics Department and contribute to the construction of the next Upgrade program of the ATLAS experiment.
You will be part of:
* The Experimental Physics (EP) Department, which carries out basic research in experimental particle physics in a stimulating scientific atmosphere.
* The ATLAS Detector Operation (ADO) group, responsible for the operation, maintenance, and future upgrades of the ATLAS detector.
* The Project Office (PO) section, in charge of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the infrastructure and the detector of the ATLAS experiment.
Functions:
You will integrate services, design, and oversee the production of support structures and design installation tools. You will prepare assembly drawings for material procurement and oversee the management and organization of the ATLAS CAD models into the ATLAS Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) structure.
In particular, you will:
* Integrate services into the ATLAS environment and infrastructure, including defining envelopes and routing paths, working closely with cabling and piping project engineers, and preparing cabling study documents.
* Steer system integration studies and manage CAD models within the ATLAS PLM structure, including defining envelopes, participating in design reviews, ensuring compliance with envelope specifications, and organizing reverse engineering campaigns.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with experience in CAD management, writing installation procedures, and technical supervision of designers and technicians.
This position involves work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays when required by the needs of the Organization.
Eligibility and closing date:
Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We welcome applications from all Member States and Associate Member States.
