Job Description
Your responsibilities are crucial to the development and operation of the Timepix4 telescope, a fast, low-pitch charged particle detector. You will contribute to its qualification and user support, as well as the development of a readout board for the Picopix ASIC, a next-generation chip for ultra-fast silicon sensors.
You will collaborate with a team of electronics engineers and firmware developers, working on hardware, firmware, or software development depending on your expertise. This work supports not only the operation of Picopix but also a broader generic readout framework based on CERN-developed electronics.
This position is part of the CERN EP R&D silicon hybrid detector work package and involves close collaboration with the CERN EP R&D data acquisition team, the LHCb VELO team, and international partners.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Timepix4 Telescope: Assist external teams in adapting their readout schemes to the telescope.
* Picopix ASIC Readout Board Development: Contribute to the hardware, firmware, or software development of the Picopix ASIC readout board.
* Picopix Characterisation: Contribute to the characterisation of the Picopix ASIC.
* R&D Collaboration: Collaborate with CERN teams and international partners on R&D projects for fast silicon sensors.
Your Profile
To be successful, you should have a strong background in Particle detector physics, electronics, or a related field, and ideally experience with charged particle telescope operation. Your skills include Detector Physics, programming (ideally Python, C++, at least one of the two), electronic engineering, firmware, or control software development.
Eligibility Criteria:
* Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
* Have a professional background in Particle detector physics, electronics, or a related field, and either:
o a Master's degree with 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
o or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
* Not have had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
