Doctoral Position in Generative, Computational Design Methods for Engineering Design
ETH Zürich is well known for its excellent education, ground-breaking fundamental research and for implementing its results directly into practice.
The Engineering Design and Computing Laboratory has a fully-funded doctoral position to work on cutting-edge research projects in AI-based, generative, computational design methods.
With the rise in developments of and interest in generative AI, this position will investigate new methods to represent, reason about, generate and explore solution spaces of engineering designs. A variety of application areas will be investigated including consumer products, machine design and structures. The position also involves teaching assistance in the areas of engineering design, product development and CAD.
Profile
Are you creative, curious and can work across disciplines? Are you interested in applied AI methods in engineering design and computational design methods? Do you have a hands-on approach? We are looking for excellent applicants with a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related area of study, who are motivated to carry out internationally leading research. Knowledge in one or more of the following topics is sought: engineering design, applied artificial intelligence, computational design methods and computational optimization.

The doctoral position is fully funded with a competitive salary. (Only a small tuition fee is required at ETH.) You will be part of a highly motivated, international team at one of the best universities in Europe. In addition to working in our engaging, ambitious team you will also have the chance to collaborate with students, other labs and industrial partners. Your ideas will help to actively shape our lab's research and strengthen our position within the international research community.
Since we are an international team, English is our main working language. Knowledge of German is an advantage but not a must. We especially encourage women to apply.
The starting date is in summer 2025 and latest in September 2025. Applications are considered on a rolling basis until the closing date of March 16, 2025.
