As a key member of the Global Program Management and Excellence leadership team, the Global Program Executive Director will be instrumental in leading Development Unit (DU) Portfolio Strategy and operations, and overseeing program execution by partnering with the DU Head, Global Program Heads, Biomedical Research, Development Line Functions, Commercial/Medical Affairs to maximize the DU portfolio value and deliver as per plan.

You will also represent Global Program Management at the respective DU leadership team meetings and provide Deputy responsibilities for the DU Head as required.
Your role will encompass responsibilities and leadership across Development Portfolio & Programs, Operational activities, Drug Development and Project Management. You will provide Team Leadership and People Management, and lead a team of Global Program Management Team Leads.
Your role and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Act as the Development Unit’s primary Point of Contact of guidance for Development governance and processes and DU portfolio & Strategy related activities and requests, for example Innovation Management Board (IMB) prioritisation, early Portfolio progress, executive reporting, Tollgates, Investor relations etc.
* Preparing and maintaining DU portfolio reviews, e.g., for IMB portfolio and investor relations, among others, and collaborating solely with divisions and leaders across Novartis, including Global Program Heads, Biomedical Research and Commercial.
* Provide Drug Development and Program Management expertise to the Development Unit Leadership Team and mentor others, including Team Leads in GPM, on drug development and program management topics.
* Provide independent review of program strategy and development plans and partner with the Development Unit Head for execution of DU strategy, translating Development Unit strategy into Development Leadership Team objectives in cooperation with Global Program Teams. Ensure Program Risks are properly identified and mitigated as well as providing input to key program updates.
* Identify trade-offs and recommend actions to leverage opportunities for the DU and address challenges while maintaining an enterprise perspective.
* Lead effective and strategic internal and external communication and reporting, including investor relations and pipeline communications.
* Ensure the optimal and timely execution of Project and Program initiatives and activities, being responsible for governance, documentation and planning, and maintaining realistic timelines and communications to DULT. Responsible for ensuring planning and management of DU resources and optimal execution of cross-functional project activities and tracking progress versus integrated development plan (timelines, forecast).
* Provide leadership to the GPM team leads and associates in activities across the programs to ensure effective execution and delivery.
Minimum requirements: What you will bring to the role:
* Master’s degree or Doctorate (PhD) in life sciences (or MBA with bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in life science).
* A minimum of 10+ years’ experience in a global pharmaceutical environment, with excellent experience in Drug Development.
* At least 5 years in a People and Matrixed environment management role, ideally leading geographically dispersed teams.
* Previous track record of success in working with and leading international large scale and complex multi-/ cross-functional drug development teams.
* Expert knowledge in drug development (including early and late-stage development across the development spectrum).
* Proven strategic and innovative leader, with ability to present to and interact with senior stakeholders, including Board levels.
* Commercial and business acumen with well-developed knowledge of international business practices.
