About the Position ICPS is seeking an accomplished and visionary Editor In Chief to lead and oversee the operations of our editorial department, driving excellence in academic publishing and advancing ICPS’s mission to promote international peace and security. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Chief Research Officer to align editorial strategies with organisational goals, enhance academic standards, and foster a culture of integrity and innovation within ICPS’s publishing activities. As Editor In Chief, you will have oversight of the editorial department, including direct line management of two deputy editors in chiefs. You will lead the team in reviewing ICPS’s current publications, refining editorial guidelines, and implementing a strategic approach to academic quality control. Regular strategic planning meetings with your deputies will ensure the development of effective editorial policies, provide mentorship, and support the department in delivering impactful, high-quality publications. This position will also involve collaborating across departments to ensure that ICPS’s editorial outputs align with broader organisational objectives, including the creation of publications that resonate with global audiences and uphold the highest academic standards. Additionally, you will work to strengthen the department’s internal processes, offering professional development opportunities to team members and building an inclusive and high-performing editorial team. Key Responsibilities Editorial Leadership and Vision Develop and implement a long-term editorial strategy that aligns with ICPS’s mission to promote international security and peace. Lead the editorial team in producing high-quality academic content that reflects the values and standards of the organisation, setting the tone for future publications. Content Oversight and Quality Control Take responsibility for the overall editorial content, ensuring that all publications meet the highest standards of accuracy, relevance, and academic integrity. Oversee the editorial review process, ensuring timely and consistent delivery of quality content. Team Leadership and Development Manage and mentor a team of editors and editorial staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous professional development. Provide guidance and support to the team, ensuring they remain motivated and aligned with editorial goals. Skills and Competencies Required: Editorial Expertise and Strategic Thinking Proven experience as an editor, preferably in a senior editorial or leadership role, with a demonstrated ability to craft and execute long-term editorial strategies. A deep understanding of academic publishing, editorial processes, and standards is essential. Leadership and Team Management Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present editorial decisions clearly to a wide range of stakeholders. Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and mentoring editorial teams. Able to inspire a team towards achieving high editorial standards and fostering an environment of creativity and excellence. Project Management and Organisation Strong organisational skills with experience managing multiple editorial projects simultaneously. Proven ability to develop and execute plans that ensure publications are delivered on time, to scope, and to the highest quality standards. Qualifications A master’s degree in Linguistics, English Literature, Publishing, International Relations, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline can substitute for up to 3 years of experience in an editorial role. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in academic publishing, with at least 2 years in a senior editorial position such as Editor-in-Chief or managing editorial teams. Experience at international journals, academic organisations, or major publishing houses is highly desirable. Proven experience in leading editorial teams, managing complex editorial processes, and ensuring adherence to high academic standards. Experience in mentoring junior editorial staff and overseeing publishing workflows is essential. Advanced proficiency in digital tools and platforms such as Google Drive, Click Up, and WIX. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and publication tools will be advantageous. Comprehensive experience with both traditional and digital academic publishing methods. Familiarity with academic publication techniques, citation standards, and peer review processes is essential. Fluency in English (CEFR C1) is required. Proficiency in additional languages (French - German) is desirable. Demonstrated ability to oversee the planning, organisation, and execution of large editorial projects, ensuring timely publication and the highest quality standards. A commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment and a demonstrated understanding of cultural, gender-based, religious, racial, national, and age-related sensitivities in academic publishing. Comfortable with part-time commitment, contributing 8–10 hours (20%) per week, with availability for remote work, selecting your own working hours.
