EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 18,500 people, including over 14,000 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries.
Battery BMS Algorithm Developer
Your mission is to develop and test algorithms that support the realization of innovative Battery Management System (BMS) platforms. These activities will be carried out in close collaboration with our project partner from the CSEM Battery Innovation Hub. You will closely work together with BMS engineers and software experts, and you will support the project teams by developing BMS algorithms for state estimators (state-of-charge, state-of-health, etc.) and features that support the implementations of the European Battery Passport. We expect you to work in an autonomous manner and with an affinity for high quality technology transfer to our industrial partners.
Profile
* An excellent MSc degree, preferably in Computer Sciences or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent R&D experience.
* Experience in Python/C programming and software development tools (e.g., GitHub, etc.).
* Knowledge in design and implementation of battery state estimators.
* Knowledge in modelling and simulation of electrochemical storage systems is a plus.
* Knowledge of battery diagnosis techniques (such as EIS, IC/DV) is a plus.
* Highly motivated, eager to learn, and with a strong sense of ownership.
* Professional proficiency in English (oral and written).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Design physics and data-based battery models and associated algorithms.
* Design battery state estimators (e.g., SoC, SoH, SoS, etc.) and associated algorithms.
* Implement these models/estimators together with suitable simulation environments on PC-based platforms.
* Study academic papers, integrate your findings in your developments, and share your insights with the team.
* Support the software implementation onto BMS platforms together with software engineers.
* Contribute to establish test plans for the performance evaluation together with the system engineers.
* Execute performance tests via suitable simulations or based on available laboratory data.
* Support the integration of BMS software into embedded systems together with the BMS hardware team.
