Category Buyer – 6403
A global market leader in the production and process support of active pharmaceutical ingredients is seeking an experienced Category Buyer to manage engineering services procurement globally within their Capital Expenditure (CapEx) team.
The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, a deep understanding of the life sciences landscape, and ability to cultivate partnerships with suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and service.
This one-year contract role is based in Basel or remote with regular visits to the Visp production site in Switzerland.
Main Responsibilities:
* Develop and execute category strategies for engineering services procurement, including design, construction, commissioning, and qualification services.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand sourcing needs and contribute to successful project execution.
* Conduct market research and supplier analysis to identify potential suppliers, assess capabilities, monitor performance, and manage relationships.
* Negotiate framework and project-specific agreements to secure favorable terms while ensuring compliance and mitigating risks.
* Monitor market trends, pricing, and suppliers' capacity dynamics to inform decision-making and minimize risk.
* Implement savings initiatives to achieve category-specific performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
* Prepare reports and presentations for senior management highlighting key metrics, supplier performance, and strategic insights.
* Onboard suppliers to Responsible Sourcing initiatives and ensure compliance with company commitments.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
* Fluent English and German language knowledge required.
* CIPS or equivalent certification.
* 5-10 years experience in procurement, category management, or supply chain within life sciences.
* Understanding regulatory requirements and standards in life sciences sector.
* Agility in managing priorities and reprioritizing.
* Business acumen through thorough evaluation of business cases.

* Ability to listen to customer needs and translate into cost-effective execution.
