The primary objective is to ensure that the quality requirements (QA and QC) for projects are fully met and adhered to. This role plays a key part in the development and continuous improvement of Global Supply Chain and Quality Processes across the organization. This involves collaborating with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to implement and maintain high standards of quality, ensuring that the goals of the global Polymer & Crystallization Business Unit (POFC) are achieved through strategic contributions. POFC Business Unit is part of the Chemtech Division of Sulzer (chemical industry).
This role offers the opportunity to work within an international project environment, where you will actively contribute to the success of global projects. You will engage in a cross-functional and cross-regional team setting, facilitating the achievement of project objectives in accordance with contractual requirements. Your contributions will directly support the global supply chain development program and quality processes, which are essential for the Polymer & Crystallization Business Unit's (POFC) ongoing success. Additionally, the role will allow you to influence and shape quality standards at a global level.
Your main tasks and responsibilities:
* Lead initiatives to standardize quality documents and ensure continuous improvement in the processes related to the POFC Business Unit. This includes ensuring all documentation meets the required global standards and regulatory requirements, while optimizing processes to enhance quality and efficiency across the business.
* Develop and establish a global network of third-party Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) partners, ensuring the network supports POFC-specific needs. You will create the necessary working framework for managing third-party support and responsibilities, and also coordinate the selection, management, and oversight of third-party inspectors.
* Contribute to the improvement and development of strategic supplier relationships within POFC Business Unit. This involves supporting the identification, qualification, and ongoing performance management of key suppliers, helping to strengthen the supply chain through enhanced supplier collaboration.
* Provide expertise and participate in the Chemtech Global Quality Network to share best practices, learn from other teams, and promote a consistent approach to quality across the global network. This may include providing technical guidance, offering solutions to challenges, and driving alignment with quality standards.
* Assist project managers in the early stages of the project, particularly during the sales phase, by ensuring that quality-related aspects of contracts are well defined and that project deliverables align with quality expectations. This may involve advising on technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and ensuring proper documentation.
* Carefully review and, when required, issue purchase specifications that align with project requirements and quality standards. This includes collaborating with procurement and suppliers to ensure specifications are comprehensive, accurate, and meet contractual and quality criteria.
* Review material certificates to verify that supplied materials meet the necessary specifications and quality requirements.
* Participate in Kick-off Meetings (KoM) at both customer and supplier locations to align all stakeholders on the project objectives, quality expectations, and key deliverables.
* Develop and issue the Quality Management Plan (QMP) for each project, detailing the approach to maintaining quality throughout the project's lifecycle. This includes outlining processes, responsibilities, and methodologies for achieving and maintaining quality.
* Ensure that Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are reviewed, approved, and in compliance with both customer requirements and internal quality standards. This includes collaborating with project teams and suppliers to define necessary inspections and tests for each phase of the project.
* Evaluate and approve critical welding documentation, including Welding Maps, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ). This ensures welding activities meet quality standards and comply with technical requirements.
* Review and approve test procedures to ensure they are comprehensive and in compliance with applicable standards and specifications. This includes assessing the methods and equipment used to test materials, components, and finished products.
* Lead Pre-Inspection Meetings (PIM) to discuss and clarify inspection activities, define responsibilities, and confirm the scope of inspections with suppliers and stakeholders.
* If required, carry out quality control tasks, including inspections, at supplier facilities. This may involve verifying the quality of raw materials, processes, or finished products to ensure they meet the necessary standards before shipment or project integration.
* Review and approve the Manufacturer’s Data Books (MDB) provided by suppliers to confirm that all relevant quality documentation, certificates, and test results are included and meet the required specifications.
* Develop, review, and finalize quality specifications for key equipment used in POFC projects. This includes defining critical quality parameters for equipment and ensuring specifications align with project needs and regulatory requirements.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* Minimum 5 years' experience as a Quality Controller in an engineering environment
* Advanced knowledge on metallic materials, testing (NDE), welding, standards, pressure vessel design codes, corrosion
* Bachelor or master in Mechanical Engineering
* Fluent in English, with German as a plus
