About the role
The Role will be part of Straumann’s Group Legal HQ Team in Basel and will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the company’s intellectual property assets. The primary focus is to provide legal guidance to Straumann Group’s innovation teams in research and development as well as the related manufacturing operations, and to manage and negotiate IP-related contracts.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
* Provides legal advice to the R&D and innovation departments of the Straumann Group in Europe on IP matters in collaboration with Straumann’s Group Intellectual Property Department
* Provides legal advice for operation entities and process teams on intellectual property matters in Europe in collaboration with Straumann’s Group Intellectual Property Department (in particular Villeret, Corgémont, Medentika, Anthogyr, Createch, etkon, Biora)
* Facilitates collaborations with external partners, universities, research institutions and start-ups
* Drafts and negotiates intellectual property agreements, including development, research, licensing, collaboration, clinical trial, material transfer, consulting and non-disclosure agreements, as well as IP related procurement agreements
* Responsible for creating, revising and managing IP contract templates
* Advises on IP policies and innovation processes
* Supports IP related transactions and due diligence
* Provides legal IP trainings
Requirements
Education
* Law degree (Master’s). Admission to the bar and other qualifications such as an LL.M. are an asset
Experience
* Solid foundation in all aspects of IP law (in particular patent, design, trade secret, copyright and trademark law)
* Good contract drafting skills in English; German, French and/or other languages a plus
* Experience in drafting and negotiating intellectual property rights agreements
* 5 years working experience on in-house and/or in a law firm, with focus intellectual property
* Negotiation experience with university IP transfer offices
* Proactive self-starter who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Commercial acumen, understanding priorities of the business and be able to give balanced advice on legal and commercial risk, adapting approach where necessary
* Results-driven, consistently achieving goals/meeting deadlines, and pursuing goals with a sense of urgency/energy and an emphasis on excellence
* Balance and prioritize multiple stakeholders
* Proactive in liaising with colleagues and to formulate plans or policies that may not already exist
