Ensure that electricity flows in Switzerland In this exciting position, you will independently drive the development of functionalities in the area of decision support for real-time operation and forward planning of the transmission grid. You will have the following tasks:
Independent planning and coordination of tasks in the context of extending the functionality of decision support (Optimal Power Flow, Dynamic Line Rating, Forecasting etc.).
Familiarisation with the use cases of mathematical optimisation in the transmission grid
Familiarisation with Swissgrid's grid operation concepts (voltage stability, grid security, etc.)
Developing pragmatic solutions for decision support in the transmission grid
Contributing to projects from the first day, in close collaboration with various specialists
This is how you make the difference We are looking for a highly motivated individual with an independent, analytical way of working for this versatile position. You also have the following:
Student in engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, energy science, control engineering, operations research or comparable), ideally with a Bachelor's degree, with an overall understanding of the electricity industry and open to interdisciplinary activities
Initial experience in the areas of transmission network modelling and/or mathematical optimisation
Proficient in working with data and programming skills (MATLAB, Python or comparable)
Very good knowledge of German or English

About us The business unit Market is Swissgrid's operational hub. The experienced specialists are responsible for transmission system operation and the markets for ancillary services. They also operate the congestion management at the Swiss borders and play an active role in shaping the development of the electricity market in Switzerland and Europe. At the heart of the Swiss electricity supply, in the Swissgrid control centre, various teams monitor and control the electricity flows in the grid around the clock.
Our Operational Decision Support team is responsible for the development and operation of applications for operational decision support, in close cooperation with the internal IT.
