Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. As an established global knowledge brokerage, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is a global community of policy, business, and finance professionals and organisations committed to collaboratively generating, managing, and sharing knowledge on the transition to an inclusive green and circular economy. The GGKP is led by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank. The mission of GGKP is to empower government decision makers, companies and financial institutions with evidence-based knowledge that can best support them to contribute effectively to the green and circular economy transition. GGKP is undertaking a significant digital transformation to enhance its knowledge and project information management capabilities. This transformation centers on implementing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions and a comprehensive Application Programming Interface (API) architecture. The enhanced system will enable sophisticated features including automated content classification using domain-specific taxonomies, intelligent knowledge discovery across platforms, personalized content delivery based on user profiles and interests, and seamless knowledge sharing both within the GGKP ecosystem and with external partner platforms. The system will incorporate natural language processing for improved search capabilities, machine learning for content recommendations, and advanced analytics for tracking knowledge utilization and impact.
A Senior Enterprise Solutions Architect is sought to evaluate GGKP's current digital architecture and design a future-ready system that can support these advanced capabilities. This role will focus on creating an integrated architecture that enables efficient data flow between platforms, supports AI model deployment and management, ensures robust security measures, and delivers an intuitive user experience across all touchpoints. The consultant will assess current systems, identify integration opportunities and technical gaps, and develop a comprehensive architectural blueprint that supports GGKP's evolution into an AI-enhanced knowledge broker. This work will culminate in detailed technical specifications and implementation guidelines that outline the complete GGKP system architecture, including infrastructure requirements, security protocols, API standards, AI governance frameworks, and the expertise needed to maintain and expand the system. The architecture must be designed to support progressive scaling of AI capabilities while maintaining system reliability, data privacy, and exceptional user experience.
1. Conduct a thorough technical review of GGKP's system architecture, examining both the user-facing components and underlying infrastructure, and encompassing all platform functionalities, integration points, and security implementations, to provide a clear picture of the current technical landscape.
2. Create a comprehensive map of GGKP's current digital infrastructure, documenting how different platforms interact, where data flows between systems, and what security measures protect each component.
3. Engage with GGKP's technical team through structured interviews to understand their development approach, maintenance procedures, and current challenges in managing the system architecture.
4. Develop practical recommendations for improving system effectiveness, focusing on how to better connect GGKP's various platforms and tools, suggesting specific technical solutions for both frontend and backend integration, with the goal to create a more unified, user-friendly experience while maintaining robust system performance.
5. Perform a comparative analysis against similar knowledge platforms, identifying best practices and innovative solutions that could enhance GGKP's technical infrastructure, particularly in AI implementation and API management.
6. Create a detailed technical specification that outlines how an enhanced system architecture should be built and maintained, and which can serve as a practical guide for future development, including specific requirements for expertise and resources needed to implement and sustain the improvements over time.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or artificial intelligence is required. Additional certifications in enterprise architecture frameworks (such as TOGAF) are highly desirable. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Minimum of 10 years of experience in enterprise systems architecture or related technical leadership roles. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing AI-enabled systems and API architectures. Proven track record in leading technical transformation projects. Strong documentation and communication skills, with ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
