The role of a Secondary Teaching Assistant at International Community School (ICS) is vital in guiding older students through their path to IB exams, university, and future career choices. Job Summary
The library plays a significant role in supporting the educational objectives of ICS. Every member of the school community should have access to an organized collection of resources and services catering to their educational, informational, recreational, and cultural needs. The ICS library provides a conducive environment where students and staff can work independently, collaboratively, and productively.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the library, ensuring it remains aesthetically pleasing and conducive to productive use.
* Instruct students in the proper use of the library, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.
* Operate and maintain various library equipment, including audiovisual tools and computers, to support student learning.
* Catalogue and process the library collection, shelving materials and updating catalogues, indexes, and lists.
* Create engaging library exhibits, such as display boards, posters, and signage, to promote literacy and a love for reading.
* Contribute to the selection and ordering of library books and materials, researching publishers for best prices and preparing purchase requisitions.
* Manage and coordinate subscriptions to ensure access to relevant resources.
* Coordinate library schedules with staff members to optimize resource utilization.
* Participate actively in staff and department meetings, sharing ideas and expertise to drive school improvement.
* Foster a positive school climate of collegiality and collaboration among teachers, students, and parents.
Requirements
* Previous experience working in a school library or library-related position, preferably in schools with secondary and high-school-age students.
* Open-minded, flexible, and willing to learn, with a passion for teamwork and collaboration.
* Empathetic towards teachers and enjoy working with them, students, and parents to create a supportive environment.
* Effective communicator with a sense of humor, able to build rapport with colleagues and students alike.
* Comfortable taking initiative and thinking creatively to solve problems.
* Proficient in technology and eager to explore new ideas and innovations.
* Understanding of International Education and the International Baccalaureate philosophies.
