The C4IR is the foremost platform for leaders to anticipate emerging technologies and promote responsible sectoral and industry transformation. It drives progress by linking national ownership and action with global network-based collaboration, learning and scaling via mainly government-hosted and -funded independent 4IR centres.
The C4IR is organized in (1) thematic teams and sub-teams leading communities and initiatives in areas ranging from “AI and Machine Learning” to “Bioeconomy” to “Space Technology”, and (2) “Network and Partnerships Team” (NPT) which is responsible for engaging stakeholders across all thematics. Concretely, the objective of this team is (a) to engage stakeholders in mission-driven, multi-year, system-level initiatives, and (b) to enable the global network
of national/thematic C4IR centres leverage such initiatives as well as the Forum’s communities, convening power, digital infrastructure, visibility and brand.
The Network includes 19 4IR Centres at national and sub national levels driving responsible and inclusive adoption of technologies in industries, economies and societies. They build communities of public and private sector stakeholders, advance initiatives and projects, and deliver outcomes such as new national policies or pilots. Strategic Communications activities such as publications, events, campaigns are important tools to advance and showcase the work of these Centres and their national communities. This position will act as a liaison between the Forum’s Global Communications Group and the Centre teams to ensure consistent value delivery to 4IR Centres and support them to build global influence by showcasing their technology leadership and impact.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
The Communications Lead, C4IR Network reports to the Head of Strategic Impact, C4IR and will operate across multiple teams and geographies in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment. They will collaborate closely with the Forum’s Global Communications Group that manages its public engagement channels (social media, blogs, podcasts, video production), media relationships and collaborations and communications to the Forum partners and constituents. They will guide 4IR Centre teams to ensure high quality and impactful activities that respect the integrity of the Forum brand. They will also maintain productive relationships across all Forum Centres working on diverse thematic initiatives and communities. Establishing productive relationships externally and across the institution will be of utmost importance for succeeding in this role.
Breakdown of main responsibilities:
1. Provide assistance and guidance on community and public engagement strategies of C4IR Centres, while ensuring strategic alignment and collaboration with the Forum’s global strategies and capabilities.
2. Be the custodian of the Forum brand, building and implementing guidance and guardrails for co-branded events and publications delivered by C4IR Centres.
3. Facilitate communication activities and outcomes for the C4IR Network at Forum meetings, including publication launches, press conferences, press releases or media meet ups
4. Shape the Forum’s global technology agenda and portfolio of activities by sharing insights and case studies from C4IR Centres in the C4IR Network and with other relevant stakeholders.
5. Design and lead content capture and curation for C4IR Network communications projects such as the Annual Impact Report, video or podcast series or global campaigns.
6. Maintain C4IR Network digital assets such as the C4IR public website, digital repositories, dashboards, brand or marketing collaterals and other collaboration toolsin collaboration with relevant internal teams
7. Oversee annual calendar for independent C4IR publications and events, ensuring alignment with the Forum’s global calendar, and building connections and synergies where relevant.
8. Support information sharing and capacity building among Forum and Centre teams via newsletters, intranet pages, leadership memos, community calls or training programs.
9. Track KPIs and analytics for network activities and implement solutions to improve visibility and reach.
Preferred requirements and experience
10. Master’s degree or equivalent in communications, management, policy or related fields
11. 7+ years work experience in corporate communications, events, public relations, media, network or community management, incubators or accelerators or related fields.
12. Hands-on experience developing and managing complex projects and operations, building high-performing and cross functional teams and helping to turn ideas into tangible action and impact.
13. Excellence in written and spoken English.
14. Proven excellent project management and coordination skills; attention to detail; capacity to apply critical thinking, synthesize various viewpoints, consult broadly, communicate clearly, work collaboratively in a multicultural team, and manage both long- and short-term objectives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
15. Experience of working with teams in diverse global locations in a fast paced environment
