Job Description
High-Voltage Engineering Expertise Sought for Advanced RF Systems
We are looking for a highly skilled individual to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, oversee challenging installations, and ensure safety standards in one of the most advanced scientific environments on the planet.
The Section provides the RF power generation necessary to feed the particle accelerators at CERN. We design and specify, procure, install, and reliably operate the RF power systems for a large part of the CERN accelerators and high-power RF test facilities, as well as engaging in R&D for novel power sources in collaboration with external partners.
Main Tasks:
* Design and build new high-voltage systems to power high-performance klystrons;
* Oversee the troubleshooting and operation of pulsed and continuous-wave (CW) high-voltage generators (60–360 kV) for RF systems;
* Provide expert support to the operating team on high-voltage-related issues;
* Define and manage technical specifications as well as procurement documentation;
* Lead the procurement, installation, and commissioning of high-voltage systems;
* Supervise and mentor staff and students as needed, fostering a collaborative environment;
* Ensure the safety of test stands in close partnership with CERN's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) service.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
Required experience with designing high voltage, high voltage devices and pulse power engineering, RF power generators, and operating complex RF power systems.
Technical Competencies:
* Design and modelling of high-voltage electrical circuits and networks.
* Design, construction, and testing of RF power generation components and systems.
* Design and construction of pulse-forming networks and high-voltage switches.
* Design and analysis of RF systems.
* Operation and maintenance of RF components and systems.
Behavioural Competencies:
* Achieving results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind.
* Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting; taking initiative beyond regular tasks and making things happen.
* Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.
* Demonstrating flexibility: adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
* Communicating effectively: giving praise and providing honest and constructive feedback.
Language Skills:
Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in routine situations.
