At Auterion, we build a global open source platform for drones and autonomous robots. In the growing market of drones and autonomous vehicles, we are connecting high-end open source software development and open hardware with enterprise-grade support. Our Zurich-based core engineering team explores, develops and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future drone products.
You will act as a cross-functional hardware and systems engineer in our Auterion Zurich Headquarters and lead key initiatives that will define and enable the company’s hardware roadmap. In your role, you will define and own deliverables from early stage product development to manufacturing at scale. As part of one of Auterion’s core teams, you will play a leading role in electrical design, validation and testing for cutting-edge avionics hardware.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Own and drive the development of state of the art avionics modules for drones. Lead and execute on development from the ideation phase (design, prototyping) to manufacturing at scale (testing, operating procedures).
* Design, prototype and test state of the art avionics modules for drones. From initial brainstorming, you bring this all the way to manufacturing.
* Create supporting documents (concepts, CAD drawings, BOM, assembly instructions etc.).
* Define and execute electrical and mechanical validation, from EMI/EMC testing, EM susceptibility, ESD tests, thermal and mechanical shock testing, to HALT analyses.
* Work with our production managers to bring the HW design to production, by defining manufacturing and testing processes.
* Collaborate with our flight control and software engineers to define requirements and assess test results.
* Support external suppliers and manufacturers with aspects of the design in order to bring the product to the market.
* Collaborate with external contractors to design parts according to your guidance.
* Support our customer integration teams with your know-how.
* Engage in diverse areas of our product development, integration, testing and production that require specialized expertise.
Qualifications and Skills
* A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or mechatronics engineering or equivalent.
* You are able to design complex circuits, layout high-speed signals and debug PCBAs.
* Deep understanding of the testing and validation processes required to bring a complex electrical and mechanical system from prototype to a product.
* Minimum 2 years experience with designing, testing and debugging electronics.
* You have experience with mass production of electrical products, including the experience in setting up production test systems.
* A product focused mindset, that allows you to see how the use of our products in airborne technology limits them in size, weight and cost, power demand etc.
* Basic scripting and coding skills.
* Strong sense of ownership and an ability to lead across in order to deliver a best in class product.
* Self driven and able to remove ambiguity in order to operate on open ended technical problems.
* A pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset, can-do attitude and energy to tackle any problem that might arise.
* Proficiency with Altium Designer ECAD is desirable.
* Good communication skills in English and an attention to detail.
* Drone or robotics experience is a huge plus.
