Mechanical Quality Assurance Engineer
You have the opportunity to contribute to one of the most advanced vacuum systems in the world.
CERN operates a state-of-the-art vacuum system with 130 km of vessels, which is one of the largest and most complex systems ever created.
Your Responsibilities
As part of the Vacuum, Surfaces, and Coatings Group, you will oversee the production, assembly, and integration of mechanical components used in the cryogenic beam vacuum system installed in superconducting magnets.
* Develop and maintain relevant procedures and QA/QC documentation.
* Track production and installation reports, ensuring accurate storage in the equipment management database.
* Keep the equipment management database up to date, including the tracking of components and sub-assemblies.
* Analyse manufacturing reports to identify any deviations.
* Raise and monitor non-conformities, ensuring timely resolution.
* Organise and conduct quality control checks, including leak testing.
* Coordinate and oversee the flow of materials from reception through surface treatments, vacuum acceptance tests, storage, integration into the cold masses, and final installation in the tunnel.
Your Profile
We are looking for candidates with knowledge of mechanical assembly techniques and proficiency in CATIA.
* Familiarity with vacuum technologies, materials, and surface treatments for ultra-high vacuum applications (desirable).
* Fluency in English, with the willingness to learn French at CERN.
* By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
* Applicants without a University degree are not eligible.
* Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
This position involves:
* A valid driving licence.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
