Position: Market Risk Analyst in Energy Trading (ETRM) – Focusing on Power and Gas Markets Location: Zug, Switzerland Role Summary: We are seeking a Market Risk Analyst to bolster our clients' energy trading operations, focusing specifically on power and gas markets, based in Zug, Switzerland. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing independent risk assessments, supporting our front office through a robust risk management framework aligned with our Market Risk Standard and Authority Delegations. This position demands a comprehensive oversight of trading activities, including position monitoring, P&L analysis, and risk assessment to proactively manage potential market risks.
Key Responsibilities: Independently assess and report on market risks, offering insightful solutions and supporting their implementation within the commodity risk domain.
Manage and enhance risk models, contributing to the development of market risk analytics, and closely collaborate with the trading team to evaluate and challenge trading strategies.
Participate in defining risk management policies and procedures, serving as a strategic partner to both challenge and support daily trading operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
Execute back-testing for risk metrics, including Value at Risk (VaR) and sensitivity/scenario analysis, assisting traders in effective risk management across strategies and portfolios.
Engage in model validation, conformance testing, and adherence to regulatory reporting requirements, while supporting the Head of Group Risk in daily operations.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Demonstrable experience in market risk, particularly within the European Power and Gas markets, gained in utilities, energy trading firms, or commodities hedge funds.
Deep understanding of gas storage, LNG trading, and complex trading structures such as swing options, take-or-pay contracts, and asset-backed trading.
Proficient in IT and risk management tools, ideally with experience in ENDUR, and proficient coding skills in SQL, Python, or VBA. Familiarity with databases and external systems like Reuters, Bloomberg, or Markit is advantageous.
Exceptional international communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with senior management and front office teams.
