Job Description
Introduction
Accelerator Magnet Technology Engineer Opportunities
You are a passionate engineer eager to contribute to the cutting-edge development and manufacturing of normal-conducting accelerator magnets.
We have two open positions: one focused on studying existing CERN accelerators, transfer lines, and experimental areas. Normal-conducting magnets operate at room temperature and are the backbone of the injector chain, guiding particles all the way to our flagship accelerator (the Large Hadron Collider, LHC); this same technology will be at the heart of the FCC lepton booster and collider, enabling groundbreaking advancements in particle physics.
Take this chance to shape the future of accelerator technology with us within CERN's Technology Department (TE) has the mandate to design, construct, and test superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the accelerator complex.
The group oversees the design, integration, and procurement of magnets. Additionally, it supports accelerator operations by ensuring magnet performance and maintenance.
The team is focused on the normal conducting magnets for present and future accelerators and beam lines.
Join a great team ensuring the reliable operation and upgrade of all normal conducting magnets on the CERN accelerator complex.
Key Responsibilities
* Design normal conducting magnets, ensuring they meet technical and functional requirements;
* Follow up the procurement of normal conducting magnets, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and timelines;
* Organise the refurbishment and upgrade activities for existing normal conducting magnets, including coordinating dedicated renovation campaigns;
* Perform testing and ensure the installation and commissioning of normal conducting magnets;
* Enhance the reliability of normal conduction magnets, including the hydraulic and electrical connections.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electromechanical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
* Proven experience in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electromechanical systems;
* Experience in the procurement of electromechanical systems and the follow-up of manufacturing processes;
* Experience of implementing maintenance strategies for electromechanical systems.
Technical Competencies
* Design of electromechanical systems;
* Operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and systems;
* Construction, test, and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.
Behavioural Competencies
* Demonstrating Accountability: taking responsibility for own actions and decisions Working conscientiously and reliably; delivering on promises;
* Communicating Effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak Delivering presentations in a structured and clear way; adjusting style and content to the audience; responding calmly and confidently to questions Utilising effective negotiation techniques to achieve long-term results acceptable to all parties involved;
* Learning and Sharing Knowledge: proposing ways to improve or streamline existing procedures, processes, and methodologies;
* Working in Teams: being ready to concede in the interest of the team; seeking agreement Contributing to promoting a positive atmosphere in the team through an optimistic and constructive attitude; addressing issues;
* Demonstrating Flexibility: demonstrating a willingness to accept changing circumstances; supporting initiatives for change Readily absorbing new techniques and working practices; proposing new or improved ways of working.
Language Skills
Spoken and written English in professional contexts, the willingness to learn French.
