Job Description
Lumentum is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Development Manager to join our team. This role focuses on developing state of the art, robust, and cost-effective pilot and production lines for our Ultrafast Laser group. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead a team of Mechanical and Electrical engineers.
2. Design, procurement, and validation of production tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
3. Design, procurement, and validation of stations for mechanical assembly, alignment, and test.
4. Design, procurement and validation of robotic cells (safety, equipment, tooling).
5. Definition (with R&D), procurement and installation of pilot line for alpha builds in Zurich.
6. Development, procurement, transfer, and installation of production stations in manufacturing sites abroad.
7. Definition of facility and utility requirements for pilot line in Zurich and for manufacturing sites abroad.
8. Pilot line verification: Conduct design verification, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of pilot line.
9. Incorporating EHS feedback for station safety (laser, robot...) and ergonomics.
10. Ownership of CARs.
11. Development and maintenance of documentation (Station BoM, technical drawings...)
12. Maintenance coordination: keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services and adhering to manufacturer’s instructions. Transfer Preventive Maintenance plan to manufacturing sites.
13. Coordination with other functional teams (specially Process Engineering and Test&Automation) to make sure project needs are met.
14. Active participation in SDR and 3P events to concurrently define product, processes, and stations.
15. Proposal of continuous improvements based on inputs from data analysts and production engineers.
16. Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Define assembly processes and support process engineering in transferring new designs to volume production.
Qualifications and background
17. Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechatronics, Mechanical engineering or equivalent.
18. Experience: 5+ years of experience in an industrial development environment. 3 years of experience managing teams.
19. Strong understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems; experience with CAD software (Solidworks, PDM) and other engineering tools.
20. Understanding of electronic schematics, knowledge of PCBA design, automation (PLC, sensors, DAC)
21. Experience in designing and deploying robot cells in manufacturing facilities.
22. Hands-on approach and ability to work autonomously.
23. Language: Fluent in English; German proficiency is a plus.

29. Experience working with domestic and off-shore contract manufacturers (CMs), original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and design partners.
30. Travel: availability to travel internationally up to 15-20% to evaluate vendors and transfer manufacturing lines to production sites abroad.
31. Work Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in Switzerland on a full-time basis. Preferably Swiss or EU/EFTA citizens.
