The Position
You will join Roche’s Institute of Human Biology, an organization within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development. With the continued expansion of the IHB, we are seeking a new Lab Manager for organizational and lab support. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining lab spaces across the IHB and directly contributing to ongoing research projects.
As the Lab Manager for the IHB, you will support the establishment of a newly formed IHB, whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovative ideas focused on advancing more predictive human model systems. You will help establish lab spaces focused on human in-vitro systems, working in the newly formed Endodermal Organoid Group. You will work closely with the Lead Scientists to ensure the proper and compliant use of lab workspaces for team members and coordinate lab spaces and equipment.
Your Impact
* Manage tissue processing lab & primary cell culture, including relevant equipment maintenance, reagent ordering, and ensuring smooth lab operations.
* Support day-to-day activities in the lab and assist with training young scientists, maintaining order in the lab, and coordinating lab cleaning.
* Train and assist IHB colleagues with tissue processing, organoid derivation, and organoid culture techniques.
* Perform mycoplasma tests on organoids and cell lines.
* Ensure SHE compliance and good working practices within tissue processing & primary cell culture labs.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
* Bachelor or Master degree in biology, bioengineering, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
* Handling and processing of primary tissue samples to derive and expand organoids.
* Hands-on experience in
o Organoid culture and primary cell culture
o Molecular technologies, including transfections, use of CRISPR tools, immunohistochemistry
o Flow cytometry
* Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Experience with iPSC, tissue-derived organoid models, and Histo-Pathology would be considered an asset.
