The Financial Controller Role
We are seeking a skilled Financial Controller to oversee the financials of multiple legal entities owned by ECOM Nigeria, based in Lagos. The role will manage robust accounting processes and controls, delivering timely and accurate financial reports for all businesses in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise all accounting for Ecom Nigeria (all legal entities)
Ensure timely completion of monthly cutoff, intercompany, valuation, and close process
Maintain adequate provisions and accruals
Produce management accounting analysis for all businesses
Oversee Cognos input for all Ecom Companies in Nigeria
2. Financial Accounting
Manage annual audit and statutory reporting; ensure compliance with ICS
Monitor contracts and forward books
Prepare and review commodity forward books
Deliver timely and accurate financial reports
Analyze reserves vs actual costs
3. Tax Planning and Compliance
Collaborate with the Tax team to run tax planning and compliance for Ecom Nigeria
Manage corporation tax and VAT/direct taxes applicable
4. Government Compliance and Banking
Oversee government compliance and related work with Banking, Export grants, and liaising with lawyers and legal issues
5. Treasury Management
Manage payment/receipts process
Work with Treasury to manage Ecom Nigeria liquidity and develop local bank relationships
Oversee FX position management for Ecom Nigeria
Support product controllers for origin funding requests
6. Credit Control
Oversee counterparty risk process, including weekly credit control process for all Companies
Manage supplier advances with commodity teams
7. Overhead Control and Analysis
Manage overhead control and analysis for all Ecom Nigeria companies (PC and shared service)
8. Budgeting and Forecasting
Coordinate and consolidate all annual budgets and forecasts
9. Accounting Records and Controls
Maintain an efficient system of accounting records
10. Risk Mitigation and Accuracy
Improve the Company's set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk
Enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results
11. Leadership and Team Management
Lead, coach, and mentor a team
12. Process Improvement
Manage activities associated with process improvements, timely reporting, and the development of appropriate systems
Qualifications/Requirements
* Advanced degree in accounting & costing, business, or finance
* Minimum 7 years relevant professional experience, ideally in the Commodity, agricultural sector, trading, or food & beverage industry
* Thorough understanding of business, financial, and accounting principles and practices
* Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with advanced knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint
* Knowledge of SAGE ERP is an added advantage
* Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build trust and relationships with employees and business managers
* Strong communication skills (written & oral)
* Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, multicultural, multidisciplinary team and deliver high-quality work within deadlines to meet objectives
* Prior experience in Nigeria or West Africa is a major plus
