Job Title: Field Communications Manager and Officer
Geneva-based role with a focus on developing and implementing a communications strategy for the mission, promoting MSF and maintaining close contact with key local media.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Defines and implements the communications strategy, including advising on positioning and identifying opportunities to communicate.
2. Handles local and international media requests, proactively contacting local media to promote MSF and facilitating media and photographic visits to project sites.
3. Maintains close contact with key local media, organising events and monitoring and reporting on local media trends and news of importance to MSF.
4. Produces strategic reports on the local media landscape and acts as a spokesperson during emergencies to alleviate high media pressure.
5. Manages and monitors MSF social media network accounts in country, producing and disseminating content, moderation and training team members on external communication.
6. Identifies human resources needs for communications, hiring where relevant and managing direct reports.
Requirements:
1. Degree in journalism, communications or humanitarian affairs.
2. At least four years' previous international work experience in communications, journalism or public relations.
3. Experience working in developing countries/unstable contexts, with the ability to source and analyse operational information and translate it for use in communications materials.
4. Social media skills, knowledge of audio-visual skills and IT skills, with fluency in English and any other language an asset.
5. Available for a minimum of six months and committed to MSF's work and values.
Preferred Assets:
1. Field experience with MSF or other NGOs, with strong negotiation skills and diplomatic approach.
