Main Purpose:
Providing and procuring legal services across the entire portfolio of Trafigura’s commercial activities with particular focus on (i) trading of physically and financially settled crude oil, products, bulk, gas, LNG, power, renewables and metals and minerals; (ii) handling of trading, shipment, storage and transportation disputes; (iii) support connected trade and structured finance to the commodity transactions.
Instructing, managing and supervising external legal resources.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
* Commodities trading, chartering/shipping contentious and non-contentious experience
* Storage, chartering, transportation contracts
* Around 6 years of experience
* Practiced at a top law firm
* English, Australia and Singapore or US law-qualified, but other jurisdictions considered
* English language essential
* In-house corporate experience a plus, especially in energy/trading sector, but not essential
* Must be willing to travel/work long hours.
Key Responsibilities
* To be the first point of contact in the office for the provision and procurement of legal services
* Identify any need for in-house legal resources, procure and manage the same
* Coordinate and implement standards and policies for the office with Group General Counsel of Trafigura. Areas covered include:
Contentious:
* Assisting during all stages of disputes from live advice to commodity traders and operators through to managing day-to-day claims issues, arbitration, litigation, mediation and enforcement - mainly trading, shipping and demurrage disputes but will include other disputes or investigations, including financial and insolvencies.
* Reporting to management and commercial desks upon the progress of disputes.
* Provision of legal assistance with emergency response issues.
Non-contentious (trading/transactional/commercial/financial/projects):
* Drafting and advising upon a variety of trading and commercial agreements, drafting and advising on corporate structures including project documentation, trade and structured finance, joint ventures, sale/purchase contracts, M&A, and associated documentation and MOUs, establishing, reviewing/updating standard template documents, advice on regulations relevant to the business.
Professional:
* Work as a member of Trafigura Group Legal Network which provides and procures a full legal service to the Trafigura Group. Establish strong working relationships across the business.
