This role is to manage MassChallenge's Switzerland's events & program. The role reports to the Program Manager and the Managing Director.
Since 2016 MassChallenge Switzerland has helped 950 startups grow their businesses and raise over CHF 2Bn in funding. We operate 2 programs: an early-stage accelerator and a sustainable food challenge for later-stage startups. We are partnered with large corporations – Bühler, Givaudan, dsm-firmenich, Louis Dreyfus Company, SIG, Omya, Mars – and together with investors and experts help startups grow and transform businesses & economies. We are a non-profit.
The successful candidate should expect to make a big impact in this role, both in designing our events, deciding which vendors and tools to use, and then executing the program. MassChallenge events range from multi-day intensive startup bootcamps to partner site visits, to startup demo-days to curriculum lectures and workshops. They are hosted at our office, our partners’ locations, at 3rd party venues, and online. The role also manages our business curriculum. Both our eventing program and business curriculum are established strengths of our operation. Finally, the successful candidate will have a lot of contact with startups in this role, they will even manage about 15 startups helping them get value from our program. Responsibilities:
1. Strategy: create the strategy for the year with the Program Manager and align the plan with MD & execute.
2. Plan & execute major events from start to finish according to requirements, target audience and objectives. This includes: co-leading the event design; sourcing, negotiating and managing suppliers (ie catering, audio-visual & live-streaming); coordinating all operations related to successful events (ie speaker management); stepping up to resolve any problems that might occur; managing the event space; and following up after events to thank speakers, get feedback from participants and analyse the event’s success and making suggestions for the future.
3. Adhere to budgets.
4. Leading and organising MassChallenge team members & volunteers during events.
5. Manage partners events and demo days. Understand partner requirements providing strong customer service.
6. Curriculum management: Create the startup business curriculum with the MD. Recruit and organise speakers. Publish the curriculum. Manage startup participation. Follow up after lectures to thank speakers, get feedback from participants and analyse the event.
7. Own the 1:1 relationship with c.15 startups, helping them get the most out of the Program.
Profile:
* BSc/BA in hospitality management or related field.
* 1-2 years experience in managing events.
* High sense of accountability and attention to detail. A knack for problem-solving. Very hands-on.
* Outstanding communication skills. Enjoys talking with new people. Experience negotiating with suppliers. Customer-service orientation. Able to delegate to others.
* An autonomous worker, who gets stuff done. Excellent organizational skills.
* Team player who will contribute across the team during judging & events.
* Computer savvy; proficient in MS Office.
* Swiss Resident/National. Based in Lausanne area.
* Driver’s License and good driving record.
* Fluent French and English written & spoken (C1/C2).
