The complexity of photonic packaging is escalating, posing challenges in assembly, testing, and qualification for Swiss industry, particularly start-ups and SMEs.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a skilled photonics engineer to join our team of experts in photonic packaging. The ideal candidate should have experience in photonic packaging or be open to learning from our specialists while tackling the task at hand.
* Collaborate with customers to define and provide technical support for their photonic integration processes.
* Prototype, test, and refine interface designs using state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to achieve optimal performance and reliability.
* Characterize and qualify developed packaging solutions, documenting results for customers.
* Work closely with design and process engineering teams to develop and improve packaging solutions meeting performance requirements and manufacturing constraints.
* Stay up-to-date with advancements in materials science and packaging technologies, proposing innovative approaches to enhance performance and reliability of photonic chip packaging.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; a Master's or Ph.D. is preferred, along with industrial experience.
* Good connections within the local or national Swiss photonics community are beneficial.
* Experience in photonics, semiconductor packaging, microelectronics, or micromechanics is highly desirable.
* Hands-on experience with photonic packaging equipment and process automation.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and propose effective solutions.
* Excellent technical documentation skills and systematic reporting abilities.
* Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Solid communication skills in English and German are required.
