Job Description
Introduction
Are you ready to play a pivotal role in powering electromagnets for the world’s largest particle accelerator currently under study, the Future Circular Collider (FCC)? Take part!
You will join the (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.
The is responsible for the electrical power systems for the entire CERN accelerator complex.
Join the, where you'll be at the forefront of designing, procuring, testing, commissioning, and operating thousands of cutting-edge power electronic converters that power the normal and superconducting magnets driving the world's most advanced accelerators.
Functions
As an Electrical Engineer, you will join an R&D team, taking responsibility for the definition of magnet circuit layouts, powering specifications, design, prototype production, and testing. In this context, your main duties will include:
* Identify optimal circuit designs and technologies;
* Develop and validate models to assess performance, efficiency, and costs;
* Incorporate sustainability and environmental factors into designs.
System optimization
* Collaborate with beam optics experts to ensure efficient, cost-effective powering layouts;
* Develop reliability models to improve system availability and control.
Reporting and documentation
Share progress and insights in meetings and reports.
Qualifications
Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
Required experience with:
* Power electronics system modelling and design;
* Numerical simulation software such as Matlab/Simulink, or similar.
Desired experience with:
* Numerical optimization;
* Design and modelling of power electronic components and systems;
* Knowledge and application of power electronics techniques;
* Functional analysis of control systems;
* Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting;
* Achieving results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind;
* Solving problems: identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them; addressing complex problems by breaking them down into manageable components;
* Working in teams: working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities;
* Communicating effectively: ensuring that information, procedures and decisions are appropriately documented.
