Responsibilities:
* Join the Explainable AI research group at the ZHAW Centre for Artificial Intelligence as a fully funded PhD student, working on an interdisciplinary research project focused on explainable multimodal AI methodologies for healthcare.
* Earn your PhD degree through the collaborative program with the University of Zurich.
* Make significant contributions to scientifically challenging applied research project developing innovative explainable multimodal AI approaches for early diagnosis of multiple chronic diseases.
* Develop high-quality, innovative AI solutions that effectively leverage multimodal medical data to improve early diagnosis of complex chronic diseases affecting large populations.
* Create cutting-edge methodologies ensuring transparency in the developed multimodal AI approaches.
* Perform comprehensive experimental evaluations in collaboration with domain experts to assess and analyse the performance of your developed approaches.
* Drive the adaptation, evaluation, and integration of the developed methodology into a real-world clinical use case at University Hospital Zurich in close collaboration with domain experts.
* Disseminate your research findings through publications and presentations in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
* Provide occasional teaching support to lecturers.
Qualifications:
* A recent, very good Master's degree in computer science, data science, or a related technical/scientific field, with focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence.
* A strong interest in multimodal AI and AI explainability for healthcare transformation, with prior experience in these domains being advantageous.
* Proficiency in software development (ideally Python) and familiarity with deep learning frameworks and tools like PyTorch.
* Possess strong intrinsic motivation, creative problem-solving abilities for complex challenges, meticulous and dependable work habits, and capability to function effectively both independently and collaboratively within international, interdisciplinary teams.
* Excellent English language skills, with certified proficiency at minimum B2 level.
