Job Description:
The ISZL First Language tutor is responsible for cultivating a passion for inquiry among students and working collaboratively with ISZL teachers, the First Language Programme (FLP) supervisors to develop engaging and inspirational learning experiences.
The successful candidate will be fluent in the language and work with students having a diverse range of linguistic abilities, learning profiles, prior experiences, and levels of attainment.
The ISZL First Language teacher is responsible for teaching personalised language courses as part of the Curriculum First Language Programme for students aged 11-18 which runs as part of the school day in person and/or online.
Areas of Responsibility
* Create a learning environment that values students as key drivers of their learning while working with ISZL Students and Colleagues.
* Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to create learning experiences offering multiple access points and opportunities for students to apply their understanding in meaningful ways.
* Schedule lessons according to the ISZL working dates school calendar.
* Design learning that allows students to effectively manage the interplay between emotional well-being, motivation, and cognition as vital aspects of learning.
* Inquire into diverse viewpoints, address misconceptions, and solve problems together in respectful, equitable ways.
* Further develop communication skills and academic language, as appropriate.
* Provide regular formative and summative feedback to students, parents, and the FLP supervisor including FLP student progress reports four times per year.
* Participate in department meetings and professional training opportunities.
* Prepare lessons, mark student work, and complete other necessary communication outside specified tutorial hours to a reasonable degree.
* Commit to teaching DP examination students for the full duration of their DP course and support tasks related to supporting DP students.
Working with Parents and External Community
* Value parents as true partners in the learning process.
* Liaise with parents if required and with the support of the FLP supervisor.
Required and Preferred Qualifications

* The candidate should hold a recognised teaching qualification and/or language tutoring certification.
* Experience of teaching literature is preferred.
* Good IT skills and experience teaching online are desirable.
* A working level of English is required.
* The candidate should have experience of or interest in International Baccalaureate Education and Inquiry-Based Learning.
