The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is looking for a Data and Analytics Engineer with big data, data analytics and software engineering backgrounds to help us build the next generation of our data and analytics systems.
The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the role:
The mission of the BIS is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.
The MED IT team support this mission by gathering and analysing a large array of data and statistics on global financial systems and micro-economic activity. From this, we generate a variety of insights that are used and relied upon by central banks, financial regulatory institutions, and academia around the world. Indeed, some of the source data sets we work with and the ways in which we combine them are unique to our organisation.
But we know that our full potential is yet to be achieved. Our aim is to collect a wider variety of data and harness new technology to generate more powerful insights. This is a chance to be involved in a step change in our capability.

Principal accountabilities:
5. Supporting the Monetary and Economic Department (MED) in the effective provisioning, development and use of business applications and contributing to defining and implementing the IT strategy and architecture for MED statistical applications.
6. Managing MED IT’s product portfolio and assume related procurement, contract, budget and reporting responsibilities.
7. Providing IT / administrative support to MED IT users, customers, and steering committees.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
8. Graduate degree in computer science or another IT-related technical field or equivilent experience.
9. Experience in managing IT products including budgeting, procuring and contract management.
10. Experience in supporting a large IT customer base (3rd level support), including excellent communication skills.
11. Programming skills in languages like Python, C# .NET, Java.
12. Experience in working with economic and financial statistics (using data science tools).
13. Knowledge and experience on working with SQL and various databases.
14. Strong analytical skills and passion for solving data challenges is required to be successful in this role
