Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II (m/f/d) contributes to the development of software products, components or (micro-) services in the area of mechanical simulation software. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. The focus of the R&D Engineer II is the planning and realization of modules, APIs and front ends within a new collaborative, service-based, cloud-ready system for Mechanical simulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems.
* Understands and employs best practices.
* Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
* Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
* Works under the general supervision of a development manager.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
* MS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or other natural science disciplines or BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years’ experience.
* Working experience within technical software development proven by academic, research, or industry projects. Good understanding and skills in object-oriented programming.
* Proficiency in C++ and Python programming.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
* Experience with distributed computing technologies like micro-service architectures and APIs (gRPC, REST).
* Experience in any of the following: Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), CAD modeling.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
* Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
* Experience with web frameworks and database technologies is welcome.
