Job Overview
The Material Engineer provides excellence in polymer material analysis, will set up and operate a modern material-analytical laboratory by establishing and improving a laboratory quality management system and analytical methods. The Material Engineer will execute and report experimental studies, ensuring suitable and sustainable material selection. Additionally, the Material Engineer will support the rapid expansion of SHL’s international laboratory network within the global materials, simulation and testing organization, requiring clear communication and documentation skills.
Main Responsibilities
* Building up a new, lean material analytical laboratory, in Zug CH and support the setup of a QMS
* Design, implement and execute material analytical methodologies, predominantly but not restricted to polymers
* Plan, prepare, execute and document independently material analysis
* Develop and implement new SOPs/WI/templates, ensure conformity, review and optimize them
* Prepare laboratory documents, reports, and records to meet internal and external requirements
* Correlate analytical findings with material processing behaviour
* Present findings, make actionable recommendations (written and verbal) horizontally and vertically within and across departments
* Maintain and manage laboratory and equipment qualifications, certifications and accreditations
* Collaborate in cross-functional initiatives and communications
* Provide expert materials evaluations for DFx
* Participate actively in the selection of the external labs and lead these external analytical tasks
* Provide expertise in the field of combination products and drug delivery systems
Minimum Requirements
* Master’s degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Bio or any discipline with a concentration in materials
* 3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory or technical role related to material analysis
* Experience in analytical technologies e.g. GC, GPC, MS, IR, DSC, TGA, DMA, and mechanical material testing
* Knowledge of polymer science, chemistry, metallurgy, and mechanics
* Knowledge of moulding processes, failure analysis, computer simulations, and related applications
* Team player and self-starter, able to perform with minimal supervision, proactive, hands-on-can-do attitude, persistent, results- and execution-oriented, able to work under pressure in changing environments
* Fluency in English
Preferred Requirements
* Experience and in-depth knowledge in sustainable materials
* Experience in data science, data analysis, and coding
* Able to travel internationally (up to 10%)
* Fluency in German
