About the Role
The Senior AI/ML Engineer will play a pivotal role in advancing AI-powered carbon solutions at SCB, particularly with relation to CarbonAI. The role offers the chance to drive innovation in sustainable carbon management.
Key tasks include development work on data collection, LLM based models, ML based predictive models, deployment pipelines and conversational abilities. The role will need to keep up to date with the latest developments and engage in R&D activities to drive innovation.
Who We Are Looking For
* Technical Expertise:
o LLM Experience: Expertise in LLMs (e.g., GPT, BERT), including fine-tuning and deploying models. Understanding of LLM architecture, tokenization, attention mechanisms, and other key NLP techniques.
o Machine Learning: Proficient in classical and deep learning models, particularly NLP and computer vision, with experience in supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
o Data Engineering: Skilled in managing large datasets (text and numerical), preprocessing data, and web scraping.
o Cloud Platforms, Model Deployment and MLOps: Experience with monitoring and deploying models into production on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. Practiced in CI/CD pipelines for model lifecycle management and versioning (e.g. training, testing, deployment).
o Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python; C++/Rust is a plus. Familiarity with TensorFlow, PyTorch, BeautifulSoup, Hugging Face, scikit-learn, Selenium and NLP frameworks like spaCy and NLTK.
o Project Management: Ability to manage AI projects, deliver on time, and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Markets and Analytical Skills:
o Strong ability to translate business challenges into technical solutions.
o Skilled in working with large datasets, data cleaning, preprocessing, and exploratory analysis.
* Able to provide personal examples of using public GenAI services to help solve problems and write code. Committed to using these tools for personal productivity and to achieve faster progress on objectives.
* Innovation and Continuous Learning:
o Passionate about AI/ML developments, committed to learning and applying new tools.
* Collaboration:
o Proven track record in managing projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Ability to work in fast-paced startup environments.
Preferred Qualifications
* Educational Background:
o A master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
What you will do
* RAG Content Management:
o Develop and oversee sustainable RAG and web scraping architectures.
o Develop content processes to optimise the ingestion of new information and the removal of stale data.
o Design and implement data pipelines for large numeric and text datasets.
* LLM Development and Deployment:
o Customize and fine-tune pre-trained LLMs for carbon-specific applications to optimize model performance and conversational capabilities.
o Apply deep learning techniques, machine learning and other optimisations to improve key areas such as conversational personalization workflows.
o Continuously evaluate models for performance, accuracy and efficiency.
o Ensure data infrastructure scalability and reliability for model training and deployment.
* Machine Learning Development:
o Develop machine learning algorithms to address NLP and AI challenges as they arise such as predictive models, classifiers and recommendation systems.
* Research, Development and Innovation:
o Stay updated on research in LLMs, machine learning and NLP. Identify techniques or products that should be investigated for use in CarbonAI.
o Experiment with new tools and techniques to improve project performance.
o Lead research initiatives focused on expanding LLM capabilities and integrating cutting-edge advancements.
o Provide actionable insights from research for product innovation.
* Market Knowledge, Collaboration and Leadership:
o Develop an expertise in carbon and sustainability sector to support the development of CarbonAI features that solve real problems for our customers.
o Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, subject matter experts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
o Mentor junior team members in AI methodologies.
o Contribute to strategic planning in AI and ML at SCB.
