Physician, Head of Neonatology Service (NAT)
with a Full Professor title
at the Woman-Mother-Child Department (DFME)
Starting date: August 2025 or to be agreed
Place: Lausanne, Switzerland
The Service is the reference center in the Canton of Vaud for the care of sick or premature newborns. To ensure optimum care for all newborn pathologies, the Service works in close collaboration with other CHUV services and operates in a network with regional hospitals in a multidisciplinary, university environment. The Service is heavily involved in teaching the Faculty's medical and nursing students, as well as other professionals in training. Through research, we contribute to a better understanding of newborn diseases and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This includes both clinical and more fundamental studies, ranging from the analysis of cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of newborn diseases, to the study of new strategies to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neonatal pathologies, and the long-term outcome of our patients. This research is carried out in our Service and laboratories, with local, national, and international collaborations.
Main missions:
Direct, organize and ensure the development of all highly specialized medical activities in a university neonatology Service.
Ensure and reinforce the expertise and quality of the Service's clinical missions/operations, while developing multidisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations and synergies in line with the CHUV's strategic plan.
Federate, conduct and develop high-level clinical and academic research, financed by expert external funding and published in high-quality scientific journals.
Ensure and guarantee the missions of pre-graduate (according to FBM needs), post-graduate (ISFM training center cat. A1) and continuing education, in the field of the discipline, by being the official person in charge of the discipline.
Guarantee high-quality junior medical and scientific staff, to consolidate the influence of the clinical and academic field both internally and externally, and to collaborate with hospitals in the Federation of Vaud Hospitals (FHV) and neighboring cantons.
UNIL and CHUV are committed to promoting gender equality and diversity and strongly encourage applications from female candidates.
Desired profile:
Federal medical degree (or equivalent), MD or MD-PhD
ISFM specialist title (or equivalent) in pediatrics, with in-depth training in neonatology
Extensive clinical experience in neonatology at tertiary level
Proven managerial skills in leading and managing a large/multisite team and extensive project management experience
Professorial-level academic knowledge and expertise with proven practice in pre- and post-graduate teaching
Ability to set up clinical research programs that can be supported by expert external funding
Good knowledge of French (LM or minimum B2, C1 ideal) or ability to acquire it rapidly.
Further information may be obtained from Prof. Jean-François Tolsa, head of the Department.
Only applications sent through this site will be considered.
We offer a pleasant working atmosphere in a multicultural, diverse and dynamic academic environment. There are possibilities for continuing professional education and a multitude of activities and other benefits to discover.
