Job Title: Lead Analytical Expert
The Drug Substance Development (DSD) Process Design department at Merck develops and characterizes the drug substance bioprocesses of our biotech pipeline.
We are based in the Biotech Development Center (BDC) in Switzerland, where we collaborate with other CMC functions to bring new drugs faster to patients.
DSD Process Design relies on cutting-edge development capabilities, leveraging end-to-end robotics platforms for our workflows. These platforms include integrated "on-deck" analytics for measuring process performance and quality attributes.
Your Role:
* Contribute to establishing high-throughput and robotized analytics capabilities within our robotic platforms for drug substance process development.
* Collaborate with the Technology and Innovation (DSD TI) team and the Global Analytical Development group (GAD) to develop data analysis procedures that maximize automated reporting of analytical results and reduce variability in data interpretation.
* Establish the robotic analytical workflow, including execution, coding, planning, and data orchestration, to enable seamless process design work in our digital environment.
* Oversee and guide the operational team in interpreting results and using analytical data for process design decisions.
* Work closely with the GAD team to identify new needs for projects and trigger further analytical developments or method optimization.
Requirements:
* PhD in Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology (or equivalent), or M.Sc/Engineering degree with relevant industry and analytical experience.
* Highly motivated scientist with ability to work with limited supervision in a matrix project environment.
* Proven track record in analytics for bio- and/or small molecules.
* Advanced capabilities in Mass Spectrometry.
* Advanced knowledge of robotics systems.
* Coding skills are a plus.
* Leadership experience with small, non-complex teams or significant projects.
* Proficient in English and able to interact with international colleagues.
