About the Intern R&D Engineer Role
Sulzer, a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation, is seeking an ambitious and skilled individual to join its Chemtech, Technology and Innovation team in Oberwinterthur.
As an intern in this role, you will have the opportunity to develop innovative solutions for the chemical industry and sustainable technologies such as carbon capture, bio-refineries, and emission control.
You will be part of a dynamic team driving projects from ideation to market-ready solutions. This includes developing essential products like structured and random packings, trays, internals, separators, and static mixers working on in-house and client projects that are diverse in nature and pivotal for the industry.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate in the development of structured and random packings, internals, and related products.
2. Conduct hands-on evaluation of developed products in hydraulic test rigs, absorption and distillation columns from laboratory to pilot plant scale.
3. Document, evaluate, and interpret experimental results to produce data-driven insights.
4. Support the enhancement of our testing facilities and design new test setups.
5. Participate in the full product development lifecycle, from ideation through market-readiness, contributing to impactful projects.
Requirements:
1. Pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field, with strong knowledge in mass transfer and/or separation technology.
2. Strong interest & experience in hands-on, practical work in a laboratory setting, including conducting trials and experiments.
3. Previous experience in data visualization and analysis, with the ability to interpret and document findings effectively.
4. Basic mechanical skills and hands-on experience with pilot plants are beneficial.
5. Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CAD and programming skills is a plus.
6. Able to prioritize tasks, collaborate well within a team, and bring a proactive and innovative mindset to the table.
7. Fluency in English; other languages are welcome.
