Job Description
CERN is looking for a talented electronics engineer to enhance the Large Hadron Collider's quench detection system, a vital component for safeguarding superconducting magnets storing gigajoules of energy.
The successful candidate will join an international team in the Technology Department's Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity Group, where they will collaborate with experts to develop innovative, safety-critical electronics for the LHC.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Protection Electronic Devices: Meet electrical, mechanical, and other specifications.
* Support System Operation: Actively support the operation of these systems in the LHC and other CERN facilities.
* Develop Gateware and Firmware: Develop, document, and maintain protection electronics gateware and firmware based on FPGA, microcontroller, or other programmable devices.
* Industrial Production: Support the industrial production of various types of protection electronics.
* Effective Reception and Integration: Ensure the effective reception, integration, and commissioning of new electronics.
* Software Development: Develop software for automatic testing, configuration, and maintenance of protection electronics, and define test plans for quality assurance and acceptance procedures.
* Documentation: Prepare all relevant documentation necessary for the operation and maintenance of customized electronics.
* Safety Standards: Ensure the highest safety standards throughout all phases of design, production, and operation.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly skilled electronics engineer with a Master's degree or PhD in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in electronic design of digital and mixed-signal systems for embedded applications, FPGA programming, CAE tools, C/C++ and Python programming, and software applications running on WINDOWS and LINUX computers.
A knowledge of operational safety engineering concepts would be an advantage.

Additional Information
This position involves participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays, and official holidays. Work in Radiation Areas, work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays, interventions in underground installations, a valid driving license, and shift work when required by the needs of the Organization.
