About Roche Diagnostics
Roche Diagnostics, a world leader in in-vitro diagnostics, seeks a team-oriented individual with a curious and independent nature to join their Product Care Team as a Sensor Development Engineer.
The Product Care Team develops, characterizes, and optimizes electrochemical sensors for medical devices in the IVD diagnostics field. They focus on parameters such as gases (O2 & CO2), electrolytes (pH, Na+, K+, Ca2+ & Cl-), and metabolites (Glucose & Lactate) in whole blood. To deliver desired instruments for hospitals and testing laboratories, the team employs electrochemical, optical, and enzymatic measuring principles. They develop these methods by understanding theoretical foundations and applying them to create new sensors. Additionally, the team supports series production with technical expertise and addresses issues with existing products.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Address product care topics arising in in-house Sensor Production, including production issues (deviations, root cause & risk analysis) and product care topics (customer complaint investigations, material and design changes).
* Implement changes based on fundamental principles, experimental data, and simulation models, and integrate those changes into new and existing products.
* Plan, execute, evaluate results, and document work independently within the framework of development, product care, and operations support.
* Test and analyze sensor design in the lab using various characterization methods (e.g., electrochemical analysis methods, IR, SEM, etc.), working independently in a multidisciplinary team by planning projects/work packages, conducting investigations, and generating required data and documentation.
* Take responsibility for equipment and develop new tools, methods, and processes to evaluate sensors.
* Support the team with scientific expertise and practical knowledge to understand and solve technical questions that arise in development and production of complex electrochemical sensors and electrodes.
* Interact across the business with quality, operation, V&V, and business to support and coordinate design and material changes.
* Depending on project needs and product care situation, support sensor development activities in new development projects.
Your Qualifications:
* Higher technical education (bachelor or master from FH/University/ETH) in chemistry, physics, material science, or engineering.
* Understanding of materials (glasses, metals, polymers, and other chemicals) and their interactions with sensors and biological samples.
* Interest and dedication to studying, testing, and improving electrochemical/optical (bio)sensors and learning to understand their behavior and associated material properties.
* Experience working in a highly regulated environment.
* Experience in working in and contributing to multidisciplinary development from varied fields with diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to document results at a high technical level: actively reporting data, results, ideas, and achievements.
* Communication skills in English; German is an advantage.
* Experience with developing new characterization methods and implementing them in test methods, setups, or tools, and acquiring, processing, and analyzing data with appropriate tools (Matlab, Excel, MiniTab, R, Python).
* Open, flexible, team-oriented, and takes ownership.
* Experience in different electrochemical methods (potentiometry, impedance spectroscopy, etc.) and broader physical and chemical analysis is advantageous, as well as motivation to use and improve these skills in the laboratory.
* First working experience in producing industry is advantageous.
