Job Description:
The Senior Principal Scientist/Manager, Process Optimization & Control, leads a distributed team of modelers passionate about optimization and control. We support all sites, platforms, and modalities globally. Our mission is to make Johnson & Johnson's manufacturing processes faster and more cost-efficient while improving product quality.
This role covers various aspects, from multi-year innovation projects deploying creative, digital solutions to supporting near-term operational challenges. As a hands-on technical lead, this individual will drive strategy, implementation, and deployment of solutions and act as an ambassador everywhere they go. Building up a new focus area within a larger modeling organization, this person will ensure maximum impact at our manufacturing sites and a long-term sustainable setup.
We are looking for a strong leader who can help shape a growing feedback control landscape, including how to craft our approach to improve scalability. Working closely with internal customers, collaborators, and senior leadership, they will assess the feasibility and value of proposals and drive the prioritization and execution of selected projects. Their leadership and expertise will drive continuous improvements in our ways of working and help upskill all around them in this exciting domain.
Skill Requirements:
1. Optimization Techniques: Strong background in various optimization techniques, including non-linear and convex systems and/or feedback control techniques such as model predictive control (MPC). Familiarity with process analytical technology (PAT), specifically spectroscopy tools, is helpful.
2. Process Modeling: Deep understanding and experience in several process modeling techniques, including physics-based (mechanistic) and purely statistical methodologies (e.g., ML).
3. Pragmatism and Impact: Sense of pragmatism and a track record of delivering impactful solutions in real-life settings.
4. Supply Chain Knowledge: Sound grasp of supply chain, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and good manufacturing principles (GMP) are valuable attributes.
5. Interpersonal Skills: Proactive style, ready to seek out and engage with partners and customers both globally and on-site. Be the face of MSAT modeling in every project they support.
6. Entrepreneurial Skills: Strong entrepreneurial skills, able to connect with our partners in R&D and the platforms to spot opportunities, while able to explain sophisticated mathematical concepts and approaches in a concise and understandable way.
