Senior Director, Project Delivery Front End

The Senior Director, Project Delivery Front End Engineering is an integral member of the Global Engineering Global Front End Organization Leadership Team.
The Front End Organization covers Ideation, Feasibility and Concept in the Initial Design phase of Global Strategic Investment Projects.
He/she will act as Growth Project lead on a number of projects, as required, and oversee a number of Design Managers in Global Front End Engineering, and Lead Operations to formulate and shape standards & best practices for global strategic project investment starting at early initiation through to Feasibility and Concept and maintain an overview of the current project pipeline.
The incumbent will work with stakeholders from within Global Front End Engineering & Divisions across all levels to drive project progress through the Stage Gate Process up to Concept, track implementation and manage handover to the delivery teams for successful projects.
This role is based in Visp, Switzerland. Project Portfolio: approx. 1 Billion CHF of study requests per year with potential Capex of 500 Mio up to 800 Mio.
Key responsibilities :
1. Formulate Support & structure Global FEED organization to establish principles and best practices up to the Delivery Phase, such as governance & Portfolio decision making, site selection, and best practices for global strategic project investment initiation from Ideation to the Approval of Capital Delivery Phase.
2. Act as Growth Project Lead on a number of projects, as required.
3. Assign appropriate Design Managers to Global FE projects.
4. Maintain, supervise and support as necessary.
5. Review Designs for Fit for Purpose requirements.
6. Align standards, best practices & drive lean mindset within Global FE Organization.
7. Simplify and visualize complex information to facilitate project & business decision making by senior management.
8. Support smooth handover to delivery heads as required.
9. Collaborate with Project Leads/E2E Program Leads in Growth Project in all FEED projects.
10. Develop and maintain information, collaboration & reporting systems and various communication tools (e.g. SharePoint, PowerPoint, Dashboards et al.).
11. Maintain a high level of management and technical expertise in Biological/ Pharmaceutical Engineering design.
12. Significantly contribute to innovative design in Biological/Pharmaceutical Engineering and ensure Lonza is highly competitive in the CDMO area, ensuring this is done in a Fit for Purpose Cost Competitive Manner.
Key requirements :
1. Master’s degree in Engineering preferred (Chemical or Biologics).
2. Very high business acumen and ability to work in a volatile, fast changing environment/demands.
3. Strong mastery of all the necessary engineering and project management disciplines.
4. Well-rounded leader, with a strong presence capable of commanding the respect of senior colleagues and subordinates.
5. Very experienced in working in a highly matrix organization and complex set-up.
