Hlx are currently partnered with a cutting-edge biotechnology company based just outside of Basel, who are dedicated to transforming the field of immunotherapy. The client is searching for an experienced Scientist with a strong technical foundation and the enthusiasm to lead lab-based research and hands-on experimental work focused around obesity and metabolic disease drug discovery. You will be responsible for driving early-stage research efforts, conducting in vitro pharmacology experiments, and collaborating within a competitive, multidisciplinary environment.
Role Responsibilities:
Drug Discovery and Pharmacology:
1. Conduct in vitro pharmacology studies to explore mechanisms of action and validate targets for metabolic diseases, particularly obesity.
2. Work on early-stage experimental design, assay development, and data interpretation.
3. This is a lab-focused role requiring a hands-on scientist comfortable conducting experiments daily.
4. Develop and optimise models and assays relevant to metabolic pathways and therapeutic interventions.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
1. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including immuno-oncology researchers, in a competitive environment.
2. Present findings and contribute to team discussions to influence the direction of metabolic research.
Scientific Contribution:
1. Stay current with the latest advancements in metabolic disease research and propose innovative strategies.
2. Contribute to the progression of metabolic disease assets from discovery through preclinical validation.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Educational Background:
1. Master’s or Ph.D. in Metabolism, Endocrinology, Pharmacology, or related fields.
2. Strong understanding of metabolic pathways, particularly in obesity or related diseases.
3. Proven experience conducting in vitro pharmacology experiments.
4. Skilled in techniques such as cell-based assays, molecular biology methods, and metabolic profiling.
Experience:
1. 2–5 years of relevant experience in metabolic disease research, ideally within an academic, biotech, or pharmaceutical setting.
2. A background in drug discovery and target validation would be a strong advantage.
3. Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team, alongside scientists from immuno-oncology and other therapeutic areas.
4. Strong communication skills to navigate a competitive internal environment.
5. Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced biotech setting with shifting priorities.
6. Motivated to contribute innovative ideas and solutions to push research boundaries.
