PhD Student Position in Quantum Sensing of Biomolecules and Chemical Stimuli
The Biozentrum, University of Basel seeks a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to an interdisciplinary project focusing on the development of novel quantum sensing methods for biomolecules.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and build an optically-detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectrometer using state-of-the-art equipment.
* Detect single particles and single photons to establish new fluorescence readouts, advancing our understanding of protein molecules and their chemical stimuli.
About the Project:
This project aims to yield key steps towards single-molecule NMR of biomolecules based on progress in optical quantum sensing with NV centers.
Your Profile:
* Prior experience in optics and fluorescence spectroscopy techniques, quantum sensing, single-molecule experiments, and advanced data analysis is desired.
Essential Requirements:
* MSc degree in physics or physical chemistry with excellent grades.
* High motivation, curiosity about fundamental questions, and method development.
* Independent analytical thinking, systematic work style, and excellent experimental problem-solving skills.
* Great team player proficient in English (speaking & writing).
