The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is hiring Risk Analyst within the Risk Management department.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:
You will be responsible for assessing, controlling, monitoring, and reporting the financial risk and leverage arising from BIS banking operations. Your role will involve ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of control processes. You will design and enhance risk reports for various levels within the organization, continuously assess and analyse the Bank’s financial risk and leverage position, and proactively communicate relevant changes to management.
Additionally, you will manage the pricing and valuation of the Bank’s balance sheet, collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders. You will ensure the accuracy of the Bank’s pricing and valuation framework in accordance with policy and market practices. Furthermore, you will drive operational transformation and process improvements through the adoption of new technologies.
By joining the Risk Assessment and Operations team, you will:

Principal accountabilities:
Market, Credit and Liquidity Risks, Financial Leverage, and Capital Framework: Contribute to ensuring that the Bank’s financial risks, financial leverage, and capital framework are consistent with sound practices in financial risk management and corporate governance. Measure and monitor these risks and ensure exposures are within agreed limits.
Pricing and Valuation: Contribute to the design and implementation of pricing and valuation processes, as well as valuation methodologies consistent with sound market practices. Ensure close coordination with the Banking Department and Finance for pricing, valuation, and performance measurement. Supervise daily operations related to pricing and valuation.
Risk Reporting: Develop reports and dashboards on market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, and financial leverage, as well as on valuation and performance across all levels. Ensure the appropriateness of the information reported to various stakeholders. Contribute to risk disclosures as part of the Bank’s annual financial statements and supervise daily operations related to risk and performance reporting.
Business Development and Process Improvement: Contribute to bank wide projects or to the development of new Banking Department products, and ensure that policies and reporting for financial risks, financial leverage, valuation, and performance measurement are adapted accordingly. Drive the transformation of the team’s operations by leveraging new technologies to reduce low-value tasks and further improve efficiencies.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
University degree (Masters or equivalent) in a relevant field with a quantitative focus (e.g., econometrics, mathematics, physics).
Relevant work experience in risk management in particular with risk reporting and controlling.
Proficiency with Python and experience with machine learning.
Deep knowledge of financial markets and products.
Strong mathematical finance skills, especially regarding fixed income instruments and derivatives.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with senior management.
Multicultural sensitivity and proven client orientation.
