NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies is a technology platform at ETH Zurich created to enable and accelerate the execution of translational research projects by providing key technological resources, tools, and collaboration opportunities for the personalized health research community.
Job description As a Service Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the IT infrastructure and services at NEXUS. Your responsibilities are:
Core Responsibilities:
Setup and manage virtual machines within ETH Zurich’s infrastructure, ensuring secure environments for sensitive and clinical data.
Monitor, maintain, and improve the reliability of NEXUS services, primarily web applications running in containers on virtual machines.
Configure authentication services for web applications (e.g. Keycloak with multiple identity providers).
Evaluate and oversee data lifecycle management across storage systems, conducting annual reviews to align with project needs.
Collaborate with ETH Zurich’s central IT services and scientific IT services to ensure effective integration and reliable operations.
Keep technical documentation up to date (i.e. Confluence).
Coordinating responsibilities:
Manage access rights to NEXUS resources (i.e. LDAPS/AD), VPN accounts, and guest access.
Establish and maintain IT infrastructure for the automation lab of NEXUS, including network and storage connectivity.
Manage firewall rules, DNS assignments, IP reservations, and backups for NEXUS infrastructure.
Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain a container registry of bioinformatics-related images for computational pipelines.
Evaluate and procure compute resources for High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms, managing access.
Write automation scripts (e.g., Python) to facilitate recurring tasks.
Profile Essentials:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT or Computer Science.
Proven experience in systems and service management, particularly in secure and regulated environments.
Strong understanding of IT concepts, including networking, storage, compute, and optionally cloud computing.
Familiarity with managing virtual machines, authentication systems, and centralized IT services.
Exceptional organizational and communication skills with a service-oriented mindset.
Fluent in English and German, both written and verbal.
Desirable:
Experience with data protection and secure environments for sensitive/clinical data.
Knowledge of FAIR data and reproducible workflows.
